Finally back at it after a one week hiatus. Between the Christmas craziness and some minor aches and pains I was having, it was nice to rest. We are definitely getting back in the groover though–not going to let a break week derail all of our training plans!

Run - 0.9 hours - 12/12/2008
I really have to figure out how to break through where I am at in this training program. Things are starting to hurt and I find myself progressively running more and more slowly. The only redeeming thing I say about today’s run is that was outside and not on the treadmill. It started out nicely with the snow coming down, but once the wind picked up, the flakes were getting in my eyes and stuck to my lashes and stuff. Almost halfway through, I started having a pain in the outside of my low right calf and with each footfall it almost felt like my leg wanted to give out. It doesn’t hurt now after the run, and it improved after I slowed my pace for a few minutes, but it was weird.
I feel like I never got to push my cardio conditioning because my legs weren’t up to it. At least I got the miles in, I guess.

Run - 0.8 hours - 12/11/2008
Mentally, this was one of the most difficult runs I’ve had lately. I couldn’t relax into my stride and I just felt like I was all over the place on the treadmill. Starting to feel that grind of too many miles on the treadmill, but it’s been tough to get outside lately. My idea of my cold weather limit is not the same as the kiddo’s and I just can’t drag him out this time of year. He spends some time with his dad late in the week next week–so hopefully I’ll get at least one outdoor run in over that time period.
I took my second spinning class earlier this week. I really like it! I actually ordered a couple pairs of cycling shorts so I can be a little more comfortable on the bike. Typically during class I am ok, but afterwards I have pain in my sit bones and tail bone that make it uncomfortable to sit in my office chair for a few days. Hopefully the shorts help. I would like to have spinning as a cross training activity as I enjoy it way more than the elliptical and it feels like a much more diverse workout. If my booty doesn’t hurt each time, I know I’m more likely to do it again!

Run - 0.8 hours - 12/05/2008
One of my worst runs in awhile. My legs got really shredded up during Tuesday’s session with the trainer. I forgot to list calf raises and toe raises on there, but we did them and that is what made me so very sore. My calves have been sort of swollen almost and sore to the touch ever since. This is even after lots of stretching and two leg massages from CK! So, yes, the calves were not happy to run last night and were even less happy about it tonight. After the first mile, I had to stop the treadmill and get off to stretch them. But, I powered it back up and went for the rest.
Tomorrow–I rest!

Turkey Trot
Well, I didn’t win a pie–but I did finish in under an hour for the first time ever. Yay! CK didn’t make the pie cut off either, but I think he was pretty close and we have a few strategy points that will probably help him get there next year. Overall it was big fun and definitely a nice way to start the day before tearing into all the turkey and trimmings. Happy Thanksgiving!
